The GMO Battle is Heating Up

The GMO Battle is Heating Up

I just recently attended the Food Revolution Summit. It was a great event, with great speakers and informative presentations, including Jeffrey Smith who is the leading spokesperson on the dangers of Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs). Right now the GMO battle is heating up, big time. It’s time to educate yourself and start taking action. Now you can listen to Jeffrey Smith’s Presentation at the Food Revolution Summit on the truth about Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs). He explains the health and environmental dangers of...

Say NO To GMOs! Now Is The Time To Demand GMO Labelling!

Genetically modified foods are everywhere, causing health and environmental problems without us even knowing it, as formal safety testing or food labeling is not required for these organisms. In Europe Monsanto’s practices have been banned. I have read about people with severe allergic reactions who go to Europe, where they do not indulge GMO food, and they have no problems. I’ve also heard about Europeans who do well eating in their country, who come here and suffer with terrible gastric disturbances eating our food, until they return home. If you think you are safe, think again.

Omni Blender Review: Is It The Blender For YOU?

Omni Blender Review: Is It The Blender For YOU?

In order to prepare delicious-tasting green smoothies and other raw dishes with ease, you need to have a good quality smoothie blender at your disposal. By that I mean a powerful, heavy-duty blender that can withstand years of daily use (and abuse):-).

Most blenders that you can buy online and in department stores are mediocre and will only partially blend green smoothies. They don't fully blend tough greens, their containers are usually very small, and they don't last long. What you need is a powerful blender, with a plunger and a giant container, that can make you not only green smoothies, but also raw ice-cream, raw soups, dressings, and more.

The problem is that many of these heavy-duty blenders are expensive. Blendtec and Vitamix are both excellent blenders, but we are talking at least $400 for a basic model. Many people want a powerful blender, but are not ready to shell out the high price of these brands. So I'm always on the lookout for blenders that are powerful, meet the high quality standards, and don't break the bank. Recently I discovered another blender that seemed to meet ALL of our criteria, and also a lot cheaper. It's called the Omni Blender.

If you had a trillion dollars, what would YOU spend it on?

GreenSmoothiesPower.com is not just about greening your diet. It's about greening your entire life and the planet. The number and enormity of problems facing us today seems insurmountable: sharp health decline of the entire population, lack of money for healthy school lunch programs, broken health system, environmental destruction, social injustice, upcoming energy crisis, and high unemployment. These issues are pressing, and yet it seems that there is never enough money to fix any of them. So, if you had a trillion dollars, what would YOU spend it on?

How About a Radish Top Green Smoothie? 3 Unusual Ingredients For Green Smoothies

I don’t recommend using beet roots, carrots, or radishes for your green smoothies, however when it comes to the greens, it’s an entirely different story. Beautiful green tops from beets are sometimes valued as edible, but green tops from radishes and carrots are more often than not considered un-edible, and rarely – if ever – make it to the plate.  If you are like most people, you’ve been throwing away these greens without even realizing that you are discarding a very nutrient dense part of the vegetable. Not only are...

Delicious Kiwi Smoothie Recipes

Kiwi provides a wide array of nutrition benefits. According to a study at Rutgers University, kiwi is the most nutrient dense fruit, ounce for ounce. Kiwi provides 16% of the RDA for fiber and 10% of the RDA for folic acid. Kiwis have phytonutrients, which repair DNA, act as the body’s protection against some cancers, and function as antioxidants. Studies in Italy performed on 18,000 6-7 year old children have demonstrated health benefits of kiwis to the respiratory tract. The study found that children eating the 5-7 servings of citrus and kiwifruit per week had 44 percent less incidence of wheezing compared to children eating less than once a week. According to another study, eating kiwi fruit every morning has the same effect as aspirin for heart health (reduces blood clotting), but without the side effects.

Plus, they are delicious in green smoothies!

Why Buy Organic: Organic Food Contains More Nurtients (Part 2)

Why Buy Organic: Organic Food Contains More Nurtients (Part 2)

In the first part of Why Buy Organic? I talked about the pesticides, herbicides, and other toxic substances that are used to grow conventional produce. However, toxins in conventional produce is only part of the story. The other important piece, is the amount of nutrients in conventional vs organic produce. While certainly eating conventional produce is better than not eating plant foods at all, organically produced fruits and vegetables contain much higher amounts of nutrients, and therefore are more nutrition-rich and health promoting, than their conventional counterparts.

If we care about the nutrition that we receive from our food, we absolutely must not ignore the quality of nutrients plants receive from the soil because the quality of the soil in which the plants grow has a huge influence on our health and on the health of the animals that eat those plants.

Why Buy Organic Foods: Pesticides on Popular Produce (Part 1)

The fruits and greens that I use in my green smoothies are fabulous foods, full of vital nutrients that are supposed help keep our bodies strong and immune to disease, right? Well, sort of. The average conventionally grown apple has 20 to 30 artificial chemicals on its skin, even after rinsing. If you're eating non-organic celery today, you may be ingesting 67 pesticides with it...

10+ Kale Recipes You and Your Family Will Love! Plus The Nutritional Benefits Of Kale

Greens — mustard, collard, chard, spinach, kale, bok choy, dandelion, parsley, and turnip and beet leaves — can be considered super-foods. They are loaded with minerals like calcium, essential for strong bones. They also provide stress-fighting B vitamins and help our eyes with vitamin A. But when was the last time you had a bunch of kale? The fact is kale (and other greens) is often neglected when it comes choosing your ingredients. It's certainly not most people's first choice when it comes to preparing salads or vegetable side-dishes. Especially in winter, when there are fewer in-season vegetable choices -- kale and other dark, leafy greens that thrive in cooler weather are a great addition to the menu. When cooked, greens provide more than nine times the recommended amount of vitamin K, which helps our blood clot. The USDA recommends we eat a minimum of 3 cups of dark leafy greens a week. How would you feel if you could get those three cups in one large glass?

Kefir Health Benefits: Why and How to Make Kefir and Heal Yourself

The past couple of years I had rarely been sick. It hasn’t always been that way. I used to get sick several times per year during the winter season. One of the reasons may be that I work from home. I don’t have as much contact with sick people, so I’m not exposed to as many viruses and disease causing bacteria as before. But even 5-6 years ago, when I was stay-at-home mom, I used to come down with something all the time, and it was taking me forever to get better. I also acquired seasonal allergies – so spring and fall...
